This vintage brown and gold desk lamp from the 1980s traces a wide curve between the base and perforated shade. The succession of rings along the arm contrasts with the mottled finish of the base and head. Its profile brings movement to a desk without relying on a large-volume piece.

Why we chose this desk lamp

It is a rare, original piece. We chose it for the combination of a recognisable task-lamp form and an uneven finish, with nuances that reveal themselves up close. The shade lets the metal perforation show through, and the small finial of the base picks up the gold tone of the arm.

We would place it beside a writing desk or on a narrow console, leaving its arching outline clear. Brown works with dark wood and leather; gold adds a warm contrast against stone surfaces or pale lacquered furniture.
