Description
This set of cotton and recycled fiber placemats is hand-woven and features a surface with small variations in color, thickness, and weave. The short fringes soften the contour and reinforce the artisanal character. By protecting the table without completely hiding it, they allow the wood, stone, or a lacquered finish to remain part of the composition.
They work with neutral dinnerware, colored ceramics, clear glass, and dark cutlery. They can be used on an everyday table or combined with napkins and table runners for a more elaborate composition. The use of recovered fibers provides nuances that a uniform manufacturing process could not reproduce. As with other Lorena Canals textiles, each piece has slight differences that are part of its identity and make the set appear more natural.
Why we chose these placemats
We chose them because they combine function, color, and material in an easy-to-incorporate format. We like that they allow for a well-put-together table without resorting to a continuous tablecloth, and that they offer freedom to mix ceramics, glass, and found objects. They are a simple way to introduce craftsmanship into daily use and to create a warm, flexible, and informal composition.
