Description
This set of hand-woven cotton placemats reveals the texture of the fiber and presents small variations in weave, tension, and tone. Manually sewn crosses add a subtle signature, while the rectangular format defines each place setting without creating a rigid composition. The color is integrated into the fabric itself, adding depth to the table.
The placemats protect the surface and allow the wood, stone, or lacquered finish to remain part of the ensemble. They work especially well with ceramics, glass, and cutlery of different finishes, and can be used alone or mixed with other colors. The handcrafted production by Lorena Canals ensures that no two pieces are exactly alike. With use and gentle washing, the cotton gains a softer drape and an even more homely appearance.
Why we chose these placemats
We chose them because they transform a functional object into a piece with substance and character. We like that they allow dressing an everyday table with a small gesture and that they give freedom to mix tableware and objects from different origins. They are a relaxed alternative to a continuous tablecloth and help create a warm, personal, and less uniform table.
